João Poupard is a Brazilian singer/guitarist with 20 years of experience performing in the United States – mainly Houston, Austin, Minneapolis, and Chicago. He has completed hundreds of performances in dozens of venues, opened shows for celebrity singers, performed alongside renowned artists, and directed several Carnaval shows. João has a vast repertoire covering a century of Brazilian music – from Pixinguinha, Noel Rosa, and Ary Barroso, to hit artists of the 21st century.
Speaking 3 languages and having lived in 10 cities, 4 countries and 3 continents, João’s life journey is as diverse as his repertoire. He was born in France, spent his childhood in Brazil, his teenage years in Canada, and most of his adult life in the United States.
With a background in classical music, João is a versatile artist who can deliver solo performances with just his voice and his guitar, or add accompanying musicians to create a full band experience based on the client’s needs.
He led the official Houston Brazilian Carnaval from 2012 to 2014, performed in the Houston Caribbean Carnival in 2014, and the Turkish Festival in 2015. The following year, he had the honor of opening a show for the Brazilian music legend Margareth Menezes.
In 2017 he had the privilege to perform with Dill Costa (Brazilian singer, composer, actress, and dancer) in Chicago, and performed with the group Batucada do Norte at the 2018 Twin Cities Carnaval.
After nearly two decades of performing in the U.S., João is back in Paris where he will continue to entertain Brazilian music enthusiasts. Whether performing Bossa Nova/MPB at a cozy wine bar, jamming Forró tunes at a Festa Junina, or leading a Roda-de-Samba, João will take you in a Brazilian musical experience that can soothe the soul or entice the spirit.
